Payment Options
Monarch Counseling accepts:
- Commercial Insurance
- Self-Pay
- Flex-Spending Accounts (FSA)
- Health Savings Accounts (HSA)
Payments through FSA/HSA can be taken out pre-tax and may provide flexible budgeting for ADHD testing. Be sure to know the terms and conditions associated with each type of plan offered through your employer. That way you can make the best decision for your investment in ADHD test testing.
Making Sense of ADHD Testing: CPT Codes and Insurance Coverage
Once you have a plan for how you will pay for ADHD testing, it is important to understand the basics of billing for ADHD testing. This is true if you plan to use insurance, FSA, or HSA to pay for services.
Health care providers, including psychologists use Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes. CPT codes are used to communicate specific diagnostic procedures and other professional services. Each insurance company determines a rate they pay for each CPT code, based on the type of provider.
Insurance companies specify the providers authorized to conduct ADHD testing, the CPT codes they are allowed to use, and how much each provider type is reimbursed.
For example, licensed physicians, doctoral-level psychologists, and psychiatrists usually receive a higher rate than a master’s level clinician. Doctoral level providers, who are trained in ADHD testing can administer certain tests that master’s level clinicians have not been trained to use. They also have advanced training in report-writing, including an integration of the data, not often taught at the masters degree level.
Next time, we will discuss and provide examples of specific questions you would ask about your insurance policy associated with ADHD testing.
